Peacocks – The Next Generation is here!

We have a new crop of peacocks here this year. The others have moved on and we have a handsome, new male, Wilbur…“Willie” for short. He is fast becoming a magnificent, fully grown peacock! What’s more, he has a gentle, sweet personality. The new female, Millie, is more aggressive and feisty (as are most female peacocks!). Along with her, there is a charming offspring who we have named “the little football” because of his small size. So cute when they are first born, they look like little chickens trailing after their mothers! I am not sure as to the gender of “football”, but I think it may be another male. I will assume it is a he and find a more suitable name for him! He is growing fast and is now almost the size of his mother Millie. We have been so blessed having these beautiful creatures in our own backyard for years now. The Royal Birds of the animal kingdom!

Willie

Soon, the mating season will begin anew, and other females and males will find their way into our area and populate the neighborhood with their honking and cawing night and day! The new females will turn up and Willie will be kept busy. I can’t wait to see him with his magnificent tail open…shades of electric blue, turquoise and iridescent green…strutting up and down in royal splendor. The king will be holding court. What a way to initiate the Rite of Spring here in the enchanted animal kingdom!

Whether it’s the tiniest field mouse or a sweet cat from the pound or an aristocratic peacock strutting around in your yard, all creatures great and small have some magic about them. They bring enchantment, mystery and fun into our lives. Not to mention a great deal of humor…and love!

Pet mice, cats, dogs, weasels, birds of all feather, fish, turtles, rabbits, horses and exotic creatures like snakes and reptiles. All have special functions when they appear in our lives. The Indians have always believed that animals hold a special place in the natural world and have great wisdom. They are our teachers and we have much to learn from them.

So, let’s go journey into their world and see what happens…
